Amir Abourass      |      Principal

Amir has been described as a reviver of modest space and materials into states of architectural splendor. His design studio's built body of work has seen featured press and international acclaim. He has completed work both domestically and abroad for a diverse list of cherished clientele and friends with projects completed in the USA, UAE, KSA, France and Italy. The studio is consistently sought out by leading developers, private home builders, municipal planning authorities and government sponsored development commissions abroad to design and consult collaborativley on projects ranging from luxury residential private residences and resorts to boutique hospitality and mix-use development projects. Amir’s studio has also had the frequent privilege of being invited to participate in high profile international architecture and interior design competitions. His advocacy and commitment to the utilization of indigenously site specific material solutions with appropriately nuanced methods of construction is evident throughout his body of work.

 

Prior founding his design studio in Los Angeles,  Amir had the privilege of working for world leading architecture and design firms including the offices of Perkins + Will Architects Los Angeles,  Howsden Tweed + Heulsmen Architects Beverly Hills and the Walt Disney Imagineering Architecture head offices in Glendale, CA. He has also dedicated time to working closely with students and academic researchers at architectural and engineering programs internationally on sponsored design research project workshops focused on alternative materials and building methods. Amir has also been featured as a guest contributor and critic at numerous events including architecture design and urbanism workshops, design competitions, exhibitions, and gallery openings. 

 

He holds both a Bachelors of Architecture and a Masters of Architecture from the University of Southern California  USC School of Architecture as well as a Graduate Certificate in Building Science also from USC. With his work, it is his aim to contribute to the international discourse on the emerging role of renewably abundant material solutions and atypical building methods in design and construction in the developing world. He currently spends his time between the design studio, being on project sites locally and abroad, and with his wonderful wife and three children.
