Al Ula Residence 01       |     Al Ula,  KSA

Designed by Abourass Design Lab, this private residence is situated in one of the most sought after landscapes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Located in Al Ula, the project exemplifies sustainable luxury through innovative earthen construction methods. The home, perched on a rocky escarpment with panoramic views of a family-owned private farm, utilitzes compressed rammed earth sourced directly from the site for a majority of its load bearing and partitional wall systems. Designed to be completely self-sufficient, the home incorporates sustainable technologies that maximize energy and water efficiency that allow this property to operate freely from a dependence on local municipal utilities. The architecture thoughtfully embraces cultural design factors found in Al Ula’s rich historic architectural timeline by exhibiting traditional motifs inspired by nabatean, roman, and islamic architecture. Homage to these periods are featured throughout the homes interior and exterior motif work, the brisolier screen patterning and interior built in case work. This home uniquely integrates corten steel metal paneling and composite casted “lightweight” brisoleir screens made from an air infused cementitious earthen mixture designed to endure the arid conditions year round while encouraging a desert aged patina. These lightweight yet durable exterior elements were designed to add depth to the design without compromising strength, functionality or longevity. This residence comprises five bedroom suites, along with a master suite that offers breathtaking views over the family's agricultural property, surrounding mountains, and the valley below. This project highlights Al Ula as a premier destination and for being a place of boundary-pushing, environmentally conscious architecture and design.
